BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY

Technology and Business teaches students effective communication skills, technical skills and productive work habits required to successfully transition into the workplace or postsecondary education. This course enables students to gain an understanding of operating systems, computer networks and emerging technologies. Moreover, they create a range of business documents, which include complex word-processing documents, database files, electronic presentations, and spreadsheets with graphs and charts.

By the end of the course, the student should be able to do the following:

  • Use a computer operating system for the execution of work responsibilities.
  • Identify the style and purpose of different business documents.
  • Create complex word-processing documents with graphs, tables, columns and bulleted lists.
  • Improve accuracy and speed of keyboarding.
  • Use spreadsheets in graphs and calculations to make predictions and solve business problems.
  • Use database technology to perform data-management procedures.
  • Demonstrate communication skills in conveying and obtaining information.
  • Use electronic mail and follow the appropriate guidelines to send and receive information.
  • Identify and describe telecommunications industry components.
  • Create and deliver effective presentations following guidelines for presentations.
  • Describe components required for network establishment.
  • Identify the requirements for information management and business needs of the organization.
